Sawubona Enterprises:

We See You!

What can we offer you? Great question!

Community-Based Doula Services

As a certified community-based doula, I offer pregnant clients and their families education, support, comfort, and elevate their voice as they prepare for the most beautiful and fulfilling moments we can experience.

Mental Health First Aid Instructor

A family thrives when mental health is a focal point. But let’s face it, life presents untold pressures and unexpected trials. I provide tools to help families notice when mental health challenges are present and what practical steps we can take to help ourselves and those we care about and for.

Sawubona Enterprises is a nonprofit 501 (3) (C) organization.

SAWUBONA means

I SEE YOU in South Africa.

Thank you for visiting us and finding out what we can offer to you and your family community.

So, what do we offer?

We’ll get there but let’s meet your Board of Directors team!

Hi! I’m Toni.

I’m a mother. I love movies and Target. Yep, I go for no reason.

I’m a social introvert and my empath mind has me thinking how I can better serve people. I’m service driven and everything I strive to do comes from these values:

INTEGRITY, AUTHENTICITY, and HUMILITY.

I am a certified community-based certified doula and a Mental Health First Aid Instructor and Executive Director at Sawubona Enterprises. You’ll be meeting your exceptional Board of Directors team soon!

My

Why:

“I never want another mother to experience that inivisibility.”

My why is her. My why is my love for women and babies. My why and what moved me over 10 years ago to pursue becoming a doula was my own experience as a woman, a woman of color, who wasn’t taken seriously about her pain after I gave birth to my daughter. This was after I spoke to several providers telling them something wasn’t right. They ignored me. I would then go home with a vicious infection that halted my ability to breastfeed my daughter for several weeks and a gaping hole in my stomach. I never want

another mother to experience that invisibility. That is my why.

You have the right to have a beautiful birthing experience. That’s our commitment to you.

But how?

Our mission is simple:

Educate. Elevate.

Activate.

Educate:

We will offer you and your community family knowledge around birthing plans, best practices, how to best engage with your healthcare provider and comfort measures. We will create the experience you deserve!

Elevate:

We will not replace your voice but will elevate your voice as you voice wishes, fears, and concerns with your provider. We will listen to your heart, and questions, and commit to seeking answers when we don’t know the answer.

Activate:

We will activate the knowledge I’ve attained as a community-based doula to provide you with the best possible pregnancy and birthing experience we can. We will activate humility and grace as we go on this journey together.

But what exactly does a doula offer?

I love all these questions! Here are a few things.

Trust me, the list is much longer than this though.

birth plan guidance

Ongoing comfort during and after pregnancy

Are not medically trained

Education on birth positions

partners with healthcare team

A resourcE that helpS create a SAFE BIRTHING experience

Your Royal Legacy Doula Package

Prenatal Visits

I will attend up to 5 prenatal visits with you. This is important for me to establish a powerful relationship with your provider early. You can decide which appointments are most important that you’d like me to attend.

Development of Birth Plan

Your wishes and rights matter. Your birth plan is your compass in ensuring that your body, your wishes are in writing and are honored. From where you give birth to keeping your placenta, we will document your desires but don’t worry, flexibility is always important and we will adjust to meet your needs.

At-birth Presence

The exhilarating day is here and I will be right by you and your partner’s side. I will provide comfort measures we discussed in your birth plan and adjust it to meet your needs in the moment. I will be an advocate and partner with the healthcare team to ensure your comfort is optimal and your voice is heard.

Postpartum Visits and Care

As part of my care for you and your newborn(s), I will visit you 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 10 weeks, and 14 weeks after the date of birth. I will perform a postpartum depression screening to discuss your mental health and identify any resources and/or concerns you may have. Services can include basic cleaning and errand runs for you to relieve the stress you may be feeling during the visit.

MENTAL HEALTH

FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR

Our mental health matters. Period.

I am honored to serve as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor after completing an extensive and immersive 3-day certification experience. I offer training to persons and organizations to become Mental Health First Aiders.

Our mental well-being is just as important as our physical well-being. But the reality is 1 out of 5 adults is challenged by mental illnesses. MHFA can help.

Our mental health matters. Period.

What is a Mental Health First Aider?

» A Mental Health First Aider, also called a First Aider, is a person who has successfully completed a Mental Health First Aid training. First Aiders have empathy for people living with mental illness and substance use problems. Their increased mental health literacy enables them to identify risk factors and warning signs for mental health and substance use challenges, confidence to provide strategies to help someone in crisis and non-crisis situations, and knowledge of where to turn for help.
